Amber
Amber Ives BA

Amber’s life is playing the Bagpipes!

From piping at weddings to concerts, performing for recordings and teaching; Amber has worked around the world at the highest level as a professional bagpiper.

A graduate of the BA Scottish Music – Piping degree in 2009 from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (yes you can get a degree in Bagpipes!), Amber divides her time equally between performing and teaching- allowing her to live the best of both worlds! She has recently returned to her home town of Ballarat, after spending the last 10 years in Glasgow, Scotland, living and breathing all things Bagpipes!

Amber is currently employed by Ballarat Grammar School as the bagpipe instructor, where she can be found during the week passing on her passion and knowledge to both primary and secondary school pupils. She has previously been employed by Schools in Scotland and has delivered workshops throughout Europe. She is also an accredited Bagpipe examiner, having examined the Scottish Qualification Authority practical Bagpipe exams.

Every weekend is different for Amber; where she can be hired to perform for any kind of occasion. No request is too big or small; she has been hired as the Bagpiper for weddings, funerals, burns suppers, Hogmanay, theatre premiers, Six Nations Rugby, corporate hospitality, Birthday parties, the opening of events, Festivals, radio interviews, TV appearances….. the list is endless! However, no matter what the occasion, Amber always delivers a quality performance. All bagpipe hire requests are tailor made to suit your individual needs.

Amber has been an active member of Grade 1 pipe bands since 2006, and is currently a member of Hawthorn City Pipe band (Melbourne). She has previously guested with Culleybackey (Northern Ireland), Ballycoan (Northern Ireland), Manawatu Scottish (New Zealand) and Torphichen and Bathgate (Scotland). Amber is also a past member of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland.
